Ashwagandha is an herb that belongs to tomato family. It produces aromatic reddish-orange ripe fruits. Not just its fruit but also its seeds, flowers, leaves, stem and roots are rich in medicinal properties. The benefits from this herb have long been used in Ayurvedic medicine but contemporary research is also going on to study this perennial herb’s effectiveness on cancer and degenerative disease. Meaning of Ashwagandha

The botanical name of this herb is Withania Somnifera and in Sanskrit it means “horse smell”. “Ashwa” means horse and after consumption, it produces effect of vigor and vitality similar to a stallion. Ashwagandha plant smells like horse fur. Its roots are well-known for relieving stress as effectively as some of the contemporary drugs prescribed for depression and anxiety.

Ashwagandha is sold in tablet and powder form. It has to be taken orally. However, capsules and tablets are more convenient way to consume because you attain recommended amount needed to treat specific conditions. Tablets are sold widely in the local stores and online at competitive prices.

For mild stress, dosage between 1-3 pills daily is recommended. However, each pill need not range more than 100 mg. You will get the necessary and expected result all through the day.

For severe cases, 6000 mg daily in multiple servings is suggested. For sleeping aid, one pill of 100 mg should be taken half an hour, before going to bed.
